Being a Taurus

No one is more down to earth than the passive, fixed, earth sign, Taurus. All of Bull’s feet are planted firmly on the ground, and Bull’s calm and dependability make a Bull a friend you can count on. Hand in hand with that dependability, Bulls can be conservative and cautious, so they’re usually perfectly happy with the way things are. At the same time, their connection with the earth means they’re often materially wealthy, but Bulls’ wealth can also be found in the cozy homes they create: Bulls like to sit calmly in their favorite chair, maybe smoking their favorite pipe or reading their favorite paper, perfectly content if nothing ever changes. But this desire for harmony goes beyond the self: Bulls also seek a harmony with everything on earth. You’re likely to find Bulls living in the country, but even if they live in the city, you’ll find them surrounded by plants or working in their garden. Bulls crave silence, too, the silence that comes with inner serenity, and they are often people of few words. Bulls are the most physical of the signs, everything they know, they know through the body. This is because they’re ruled by Venus, the ruler of the senses.

Positives and Negatives

At their best, Bulls create a calm in the midst of storms all around them. They’re connected solidly to
their bodies and to their homes, have good jobs, good friends, good marriages, and good children. They’re the people everyone else turns to: They’re who you call if you have a flat tire at 2 A.M., and, though they may be reluctant to get out of bed, they’ll be the ones you know you can rely on.

But in their complacency, Bulls may be resistant to change, and can become dogmatic or even preachy. Bulls can’t understand what all the excitement’s about, and they may be the first to tell you all this New Age stuff is a lot of bunk. Bulls can be lazy as well too comfortable to get out of that chair, or they can get so caught up in their earthly possessions that life itself passes them by.

Love

Security and stability, a Bull in love stays in love. Romance and love are one and the same to sensuous, earthbound Bulls, and they’re nothing if not patient when it comes to making sure that the love they find is the right one. A Bull will always be there for you and expects the same in return. Bulls don’t like change, so they may show some jealousy if the stability they create seems threatened in some way. A Taurean partner is one you can always depend on, though, and, although it may seem dull at times, you can rest assured they’re with you for the long haul. Bulls are attracted to water signs, especially Cancer and Pisces. But many Bulls or Rising Bulls find their mate in a Scorpio, Bull’s opposite. Bulls get along well with householder Cancer, as Bulls like their comfort. Remember, earth and water go well together, creating beautiful lakes. Taureans are often attracted to the more lively signs like Aries, Gemini, or Sagittarius, but quickly become annoyed when all these signs want to do is go out and play. They’re most comfortable with other earth signs, whose reliability and need for established routine matches their own. Don’t expect many fireworks here, though just everything in its place, as it should be!

Health

The Bull rules the neck and throat and so the entire metabolic system. The thyroid gland in particular can be a problem for Bulls: They may not properly convert what they eat into energy and so can be prone to gain weight. Their love of inaction feeds this tendency as well. But the throat is also where singing comes from, and many Bulls are well-known singers: Barbra Streisand, Bing Crosby, and Ella Fitzgerald, to name just a few. Iodine is necessary for the development and functioning of the thyroid gland, which is ruled by Taurus. Other vitamins and minerals that are important to Taurus are
selenium, bioflavenoids, and vitamin E, which work together to maintain beauty and promote normal body growth, fertility, and metabolic action. With Venus being Bulls’ ruler, getting enough of these nutrients is even more important than usual!

Home

Home is where Bulls thrive: They collect, they arrange, they make it into a womb where they, and those they love, can comfortably relax. Bulls may be collectors, too: With their Venus ruler, they have an appreciation for beauty. Their homes may be filled with music and books as well as paintings and sculpture. Bulls crave comfort, security, and calm, and their homes reflect that desire. A Bull’s home is always a good place to show up at dinnertime. Not only will there be something wonderful cooking, but you’re sure to be invited to stay!

Work

No one knows a good opportunity like a Bull, especially an opportunity that promises long-term stability. Even Merrill Lynch knows this: They’re “bullish on America,” remember? Connected to the earth, Bulls can do well with real estate or land deals. But Bulls don’t want to build the homes and buildings so much, Aries does that, as they want to own the land, home, or building as an investment. Their connection to the earth makes them practical in nature. They aren’t going to set off on an impulsive whim. They may be interested in finance, for example, or banking, or the things they can build with money and resources. Bulls make wonderful employees, too: They’re the ones who show up even on snow days, the ones who get the proposal in on time. Because Venus is their ruler, many Bulls are talented folks who sing, write, or perform music, sculpt, or enjoy other creative endeavors. Many Bulls use their voices for voiceovers or are radio announcers or disc jockeys.

Money

Bulls are wonderful providers and may acquire a great deal of money and many possessions. But they also need to be careful not to cross the line into materialism, wealth for its own sake, or extravagance. Bulls can be greedy, too, hoarding their money or hiding it away where it will be “safe.” But as the ultimate Taurean desire is for earthly harmony, they are far more likely to use their wealth to share their desire for comfort with those they love.
